Firefox's Poor OS X Performance

Firefox DNSThrough one of Alex's posts I wound up reading a post Eric wrote about trying out Opera because of Firefox's poor performance on OS X and it reminded me of some Firefox problems I had. Firefox actually runs pretty well on OS X (any page with Flash doesn't count); the real issue is with how DNS queries work. I'm tired and feeling lazy (even lazier than when I wrote my last post about OneNote1 ), but I'll sum it up by saying that my Firefox performance dramatically improved when I changed all of my Mac's to use OpenDNS. I've had a few friends switch their Mac's DNS settings with great success, and Google seems to support my conclusion that something is very wrong with how Firefox handles DNS lookups on a Mac.

  1. It's pretty bad, I won't even link to it. [back]
