Microsoft Thanks Me

A few weeks ago I received an email from Microsoft thanking me for my participation in the Office 2008 for Mac beta program, and saying I'd be receiving a gift (cool), but that it wouldn't be a free copy of Office 2008 (not cool).

DHL just dropped this off:

Office 2008 Beta - Letter

Office 2008 Beta - Keychain

If you're in the downtown Denver area and have a pile of loose keys that need taming, this baby is all yours.

Agreed. If I already didn't have Guitar Hero, I'd think about it. But yeah, tame those keys :)

probably spent more on DHL to send it than the keyring itself.
    time to short MSFT (again!)

I'd be too embarrassed to sign my name to such a letter. Craig Eisler should be ashamed.

Well in their defense they're not obligated to give you anything for participating. The Mac BU is tiny compared to the main Office team and I don't think Office 2007 beta testers got anything. Over a relatively short beta period several thousand bug reports and suggestions were submitted by what I imagine was a fairly small group of users, and the Mac BU definitely paid attention to the filed reports. When is the last time you got a personal email about a bug report you filed?

I'm definitely not slamming Microsoft or the Mac BU for the thought, I just found it to be amusing and a bit schticky.

@Nick: If you have a guitar hero keychain you've got bigger problems.
@Justin: It'll be on your desk the next time I'm downtown :)
